Dr. Sigrid Müller-Schotte, staatlich gepr. Augenoptikerin, Augenoptikermeisterin, OD, MSc, PhD, FAAO

Dr. Sigrid Müller-Schotte promovierte im Jahr 2018 an der Universität Utrecht zum Thema „Einfluss des funktionellen Sehens auf die Alltagsfähigkeit älterer Personen“. Von 2008-2010 absolvierte sie an der Universität Utrecht (Niederlande) den Studiengang Master of Science in Epidemiologie, Fachrichtung Pharmakoepidemiologie. In 2000 erlangte sie am Pennsylvania College of Optometry [Salus University] (USA) den Grad ‚Doctor of Optometry‘, gefolgt von einer Spezialisierung im Bereich Primary Care Optometry (2001). Zuvor hatte sie ein Studium an der Höhere Fachschule für Augenoptik in Köln (Deutschland) absolviert mit den Abschlüssen ‚staatlich geprüfte Augenoptikerin und Augenoptikermeisterin‘.

Seit 2001 doziert Sigrid Müller-Schotte an der Fachhochschule Utrecht im Fachbereich Optometrie und in Masterstudiengängen der Krankenpflege (Master Advanced Nursing Practice und Physician Assistant). Neben ihrer Lehrtätigkeit ist sie zu Forschungszwecken verbunden an das Lektorat „Technologie für Innovationen im Gesundheitswesen“ (Fachhochschule Utrecht). Sie arbeitet eng zusammen mit der Abteilung Augenheilkunde an der Universitätsklinik Utrecht.

Ihre Forschungsinteressen liegen im Bereich der Gerontologie und Optometrie. Sigrid Müller-Schotte hat zahlreiche wissenschaftliche Beiträge und Fachartikel in (inter)nationalen peer-review Zeitschriften veröffentlicht und agiert regelmäßig selbst als Reviewer wissenschaftlicher Arbeiten für internationale Fachzeitschriften (peer-reviewed).

Dr. Sigrid Mueller-Schotte obtained her Doctor of Philosophy at Utrecht University in 2018 with research on the “Shedding light on Daily Functioning of Older Adults: the influence of visual functioning and beyond” the role of functional vision on activities of daily living in older adults”. From 2008-2010 she completed her Master of Science in Epidemiology, specializing in Pharmacoepidemiology, at Utrecht University (Netherlands). In 2000, she graduated at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry [now Salus University] (USA) obtaining the degree ‘Doctor of Optometry’, followed by a specialization in Primary Care Optometry (2001). Prior to that she completed a study towards a German optician/optometrist at the Higher Technical College of Ophthalmic and Optics in Cologne (Germany).

Since 2001, Sigrid Mueller-Schotte has been lecturing at the University of Applied Sciences Utrecht, both in the field of optometry and in master’s courses in nursing (Master Advanced Nursing Practice and Physician Assistant). In addition to her teaching activities, she holds a research position at the research group “Technology for Innovations in Health Care” (University of Applied Sciences Utrecht). She works closely together with the Ophthalmology department of the University Medical Center Utrecht.

Her research interests lie in the fields of gerontology and optometry. Sigrid Mueller-Schotte has published numerous professional articles and scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals and regularly acts as a reviewer of scientific papers for international peer-review journals herself.
